The competition at the recent Indianapolis Colts vs. Buffalo Bills game wasn’t just on the field. Fans were playing games in the Lucas Oil Stadium parking lot using our flattened plastic bottles and cans for the cornhole and football tosses, Connect 4, and Plinko.

The sorting table competition to see who could sort fastest was also a big hit!

The fun and games were part of Coca-Cola Consolidated’s ongoing efforts to educate the public about recycling our product packaging. In addition to the 20×30 space we set up at the game to engage and teach fans, we worked with our partner, the Osprey Group, to place 50 recycling bins and 8 big upcycled syrup vats used to collect large amounts of bottles and cans at tailgates.

Coke Consolidated volunteers handed out towels and koozies to game attendees getting caught green-handed recycling correctly as they funneled into the stadium. We also gave out Meijer gift cards to fans who recycled during halftime.

Coca-Cola Consolidated is a long-time beverage partner for the Indianapolis Colts. The team sees recycling as an important part of the game experience.

“We partnered with the Colts to create a robust recycling program, and their ‘green’ game was a great opportunity to further educate fans on recycling,” says Todd Marty, Senior Director of Sustainability for Coca-Cola Consolidated. “Our bottles and cans are made to be remade. We’re focused on diverting as much of our recyclable product packaging as possible from the landfill. The closed loop system we’ve created with the Colts, Republic Services, and Lucas Oil Stadium is helping us accomplish this goal.”
