Players might have been scoring on the court, but fans were scoring big on recycling in the concourse at Rupp Arena on Saturday, January 18. In partnership with the University of Kentucky, Oak View Group, JMI Sports, Rumpke & Co., and The Coca-Cola Company, we were proud to host the first-ever “Green Game” during the Kentucky Wildcats match-up with the University of Alabama.

To support Rupp Arena’s efforts to become a premier sustainable venue, Coca-Cola Consolidated provided 18 new dual recycling and trash receptacles throughout the concourse to encourage guests to recycle their aluminum and plastics bottles. Once collected, these materials will be sent to a recycling center to create new bottles, and then sent back to the Coca-Cola System, supporting a circular economy.

The receptacles also include clear instructions on how to properly recycle the new aluminum cups that debuted at the concession stands during the Green Game, further promoting eco-friendly practices.

The goal of the Green Game was to showcase these innovative eco-friendly practices and also engage fans in sustainability efforts.

Fans had fun playing games during the event, including a free throw challenge to test their skills by aiming into receptacles. Additionally, fans learned more about Rupp Arena’s sustainability efforts, participated in ticket giveaways and more!

“As the local bottler, we steadfastly believe in the power of community partnerships,” said Esther Moberly, senior manager for Coca-Cola Consolidated. “Our goal, alongside Rupp Arena and other community partners, is to make recycling the go-to option. Our cans and bottles are made to be remade – it’s integral that we work together to put our planet first.”
