Coca-Cola Consolidated and Charlotte FC honored veterans, those on active duty, and their families at the third annual Military Cup. On May 4, more than 95 veterans, those on active duty, and their families participated in a tailgate and cup-style soccer tournament at Atrium Health Performance Park.

The rain didn’t stop friendly competition among participants – members from different branches of the military spent the morning competing for the chance to win the coveted Charlotte FC Military Cup trophy. While the rain didn’t allow for a winner, everyone who participated was honored during the evening Charlotte FC match against the Portland Timbers.

Jeff McFarland, a Coca-Cola Consolidated teammate and Marine, volunteered at this year’s event as a Coke Consolidated’s Veterans Resource Group member. Jeff shares that the Military Cup is one example of the many ways in which the organization honors heroes.

“Serving others, particularly veterans and active-duty personnel, fills me with a profound sense of pride and purpose. It’s what I live for,” said McFarland. “I’m grateful for the many opportunities we have to give back.”

The Veterans Resource Group, an internal group for Coke Consolidated employees, unites teammates like McFarland who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces and offers networking, mentoring, and continued education opportunities.

“It’s truly an honor to collaborate with teams that champion veterans. I’ve experienced firsthand the appreciation extended to veterans,” said McFarland. “There is no better feeling in the world to me than supporting these special men and women who sacrifice so much for us.”

Coca-Cola Consolidated extends a heartfelt thanks to our generous partners, the Harris Teeter and BODYARMOR teams, for their contributions. Their provision of lunch, gifts, and giveaways added to the enjoyment of the event.
